Mission and Diversity Statement
Mission Statement
Faculty of Psychology members research and teach about describing and explaining human experience and behaviour as well as changes in these. We strive to engage with a range of topics and approaches, spanning from the foundations of the relevant processes to (evidence-based) application and transfer of the insights acquired. We regard basic and applied research as equally important and interconnected. We consider diversity of research approaches and thematic areas as a strength. We want to provide theoretically sound and empirically verifiable contributions towards scientific knowledge and its transfer based on integratively complementary research approaches from neuro, cognitive and social sciences. At the same time, we are committed to transparent research practices and aim to share our research material and data with others whenever possible.
Over the course of the next years, we want to focus particularly on gaining insight into the psychological mechanisms and consequences of societal and technological changes on experiences and behaviours, thus contributing to the objectives laid out in the United Nations’ “Sustainable Development Goals” (2015). Important fields of action include good health and well-being, education, sustainability, environment and climate change, demographic change as well as reducing social injustice and digitalisation.
Diversity statement "co-existence and diversity" as our faculty motto
The Faculty of Psychology is characterised by its appreciative and respectful approach to diversity. We consider the individuality, diversity and heterogeneity of our staff and students as one of our strengths. We treat each other with mutual respect, which extends to each person’s individuality, and avoid acting in a manner that contradicts these values. If situations occur where this is not the case, we take appropriate measures and firmly distance ourselves from this conduct.
As of 2025, the faculty follows a detailed Inclusivity and Diversity Statement created together with its main stakeholders. It serves as a guideline and specific reference for the faculty's culture of inclusivity and diversity all our employees should contribute to.
